Bauer Hoffman, Doris

I am going to retire May 1. Hopefully time will be more abundant. Everyone I know that is retired says I am dreaming. Oh well. Chuck has been mostly retired for a couple years and it really hasn't seemed to give him more free time to do what he wants to do.

We have taken the time to do some traveling. The time traveling just makes you want to do more. Cruises is one of our favorite ways to go.

We have three children: Jan ( husband Chris) in Austin, TX has a son Craig in Kuwait, and Steven starts school in June. Glen (wife Karen) in the Air Force stationed in Rapid City, has a son (Jeremy)graduating from SDSU in May, and Brandon is in high school. Jay (wife Lori) in Palmyra, VA has two children, Lauren and Michael in high school and middle school.

We have a Bauer family reunion the same weekend of our class reunion, so we won't be able to make it this time.

Hello to everyone and I hope you all have a wonderful time.
Doris

Carr, James

Here is an update on what I have been doing since 1963. After graduating from General Beadle State Teachers College with a teaching degree, Adrian High School in Minnesota hired me and I spent my entire career there. Thirty-four years of teaching social studies to grades 7-12. They hired me to coach football and wrestling after my second year. Thirty-one years of coaching wrestling treated me real good considering the only experience I had wrestling was as a cowboy wrestling steers. Our teams went to state four times; placed third twice, fourth and fifth the other times. 333 wins, 124 losses and 5 ties. Did I mention that the program was in the second year and about to be dropped. We had many state entries and place winners including six state champions. The coaches voted me into the Minnesota wrestling hall of fame in 1993. In 1999 I quit coaching so I could spend the last years as a teacher without having to spend time on coaching duties.

Throughout my teaching career I serve locally and regionally as a leader in our education associations. In 2002, I retired from teaching and began to pursue my other interests full time. My other interests: grandchildren Josh 8 and Sara 5, restoring old cars and tractors, collecting die cast toys, golf, remodeling our home, auctions, hunting, driving public transit, and substituting in the Yankton school system. My wife Karen (of 42 years) and I have moved to Yankton to be close to our grandchildren. Our son Todd is a teacher in the Yankton school system.  I am known there as Todd Carr's father.  After three years the school now includes our first names on the intercom instead of "Mr. Carr stop in the office between periods."   See you at the reunion.  Jim Carr

Forney Mattick, Bonnie

Freiberg, Al
I am still working about every other week as an engineering consultant at a Plant near Jackson, MS.   My son, Trent, has been working in China for about 3-1/2 years now and will stay there about another 2 or 3 years before he comes back to the US.

Would you believe I have 2 grandchildren that were "Made in China" - one was made in Houston.

Hanson, Joe
Except for the time I spent at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, I've lived in Pierre since high school. I worked as an insurance representative for Woodmen Accident and Life Insurance Company until 1994. I then worked as a sales rep for Custom Marketing Company for several years. In 2003, I began working for Morris, Inc. (yes, our classmate, Milt Morris is my boss). Sally and I have been married for 28 years. I have three sons; Tim, Daron and Christopher. Tim and his wife, Jennifer, live in Castle Rock, Colorado. They have two daughters, Hillary and Nicole. Daron and his wife, Lisa, live in Barrington, New Hampshire. They have two children; Kyle and Katie. Christopher is a special needs resident at the Aldrich House (operated by the Adjustment Training Center) in Aberdeen. In my spare time, I enjoy hunting, golfing, and playing pool. I always enjoy seeing and visiting with my classmates, so when you're in Pierre, please look me up (224-7479).

Then went to the U of Ky and studied orthodontics, being graduated in June 1973. Opened practice of orthodontics in June, 1973, in Elizabethtown, Ky., with 2 branch offices. Have 3 children Mikki, (born 1975), Holly, (born 1976), and William (born 1982). Now have 2 grandchildren with a 3rd on the way.

Hope to make the reunion in June. Have not made one since the 20th, because there always has been a conflict. Actually, there is one again this year, but hope to resolve it and attend. My thanks and cudos to Joe and Sally and others that have done such a great job of putting together these reunions and this web page. My best wishes to all!!

Hunsley, Jerry
Hi, classmates. Here is a short summary of my last 40 plus years after graduation. I went into the service and spent 4 years in the Navy, which I will never regret. Some good times and exciting times for a small town boy. Got out in 1967 and pursued an electrical career and was able to land a good job at the Oahe Power House right here in Pierre. I worked my way up the ladder to become electrical foreman and  retired there after 35 years of civil service.  Since then I have been on cruise control; golfing, fishing, and a little traveling with wife, Paula. We have two grown  boys;  Miles and Colby, who are in business in Sioux Falls.  Makes it kind of nice as we get to see them on a regular basis.  Have one Granddaughter, Lily, who is 4years old.  She keeps us hopping.  Paula and I wear out pretty quick.  If you are ever in town , look us up or email us at  jerryhunsley@pie.midco.net. Our phone number is 605-224-7072.  Paula and I wish you many prosperous years and good health.  See you at the reunion.

Kindt Lorenzen, Nancy
What a nice surprise to see this website and read about fellow classmates!  I decided if I wanted to read about others, I better put something on this site myself and encourage others to do so, too.  Tom and I have lived in Thermopolis, WY now for 41 years.  I have worked most of these years at various jobs in the accounting field, the last nine with the school district doing payroll and general ledger.  We are both retired and trying to sell our home in order to move to Casper, Wyoming to be closer to our son, Chris, and his family.  We are looking forward to making the change and spoiling our grandchildren.  We have a daughter, Michele, in Phoenix, AZ, and try to see her a couple times a year.  Between the two families, we have three grandchildren less than 3 years old and 1 grandson, age 14.  Besides a work career, I have also been active in the Lutheran Church, both as organist and Treasurer. For fun we both love to fly fish and camp in our RV.  I hope to make it to the 50th reunion.  Hope to see you all there!

Lamster, Richard
For a quick "catch up", I retired five years ago after 32 years of working for the Federal Government and another 12 years or so with private companies. I started working at the Cottage Grocery on Euclid Avenue (you all remember that little store) when I was 12 years old for 50 cents an hour! My Social Security Statement (that is another thing you have all received which was a little unsettling) shows I started paying into Social Security in 1957! Currently, my wife Maeve and I live on 10 acres a couple of miles south of Eugene, Oregon, and we love the peacefulness, quiet and solitude. We do some international traveling, river rafting, canoeing, bird watching, hiking, volunteering at a few non-profit organizations and restoring the habitat on our property for wildlife. Life is good!

The bad news is that I cannot attend our 45th reunion in June, 2008. I am currently on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Track Club which is the co-sponsor (with the University of Oregon) of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. This is the 10 day track meet that determines which United States athletes will attend the Summer Olympics in China later in the summer. I have been involved in the planning of the Trials for almost a year now and will be working at the actual event for several weeks before, during and probably afterwards too. They start on June 27th, the first day of our reunion! What a bummer. I may have to try to set up video communications where I can perhaps talk to some of you and see how much fun I am missing!

I hope all of you post messages regularly to this Message Center as it will be fun to read about what is happening with your lives. We grew up during a really fun and somewhat innocent time in the history of our country. Perhaps Pierre was not the "real world" for most people, but I had a great childhood and growing up with all of you was wonderful. It is funny how I hardly remember mosquitoes, wind, dust, hot-hot temperatures, deep snow, cold-cold wind, shoveling coal into our old coal burning furnace, and not having much money! I guess the experiences and relationships were what really mattered.

Hello to the Class of 63.

I have been happy to keep up with the news on the web site. You have done a wonderful job!

I seem to be one of the few who continues to work and am a unit nurse in the Alzheimers unit here in Broken Bow, NE. Soon I will be able to join the residents!!! My husband passed away 5 years ago and I am in extremely good health and am thankful to be able to work. I have one son who lives here in Broken Bow and he is married and has a daughter and 3 stepchildren. My youngest daughter lives in Hastings, NE with her 3 children. My oldest daughter lives in Denver and just graduated with her Bachelor in Health Care Administration.  Her and her husband have 2 little girls with another on the way. Our oldest son, of course, was killed in an accident in 1997.  He had one little boy, who is now 11.

We are having Christmas in July at my house this year so we will all be together for the first time in a while.  I would love to see everybody but due to scheduling, I won't be able to make it this year. I will think of all of you the last weekend in June. God bless each!!     Ruth Lewis Cassel

Naasz, Dennis
I did receive your postcard with the dates of our class reunion this coming summer. Apparently you had found out we re-located back to Mandan, ND as it came to the correct address. We have sold our business, the National Impala Association in Spearfish, and are planning to slow down a bit and collect on some of that Social Security we have paid in before it's all gone!!! We still own our building in Spearfish and have leased it out so we will still spend some time in the Hills. We bought a home back in Mandan and plan to spend more time with our grandkids and and maybe escape south for a couple of months during the hard winter. We plan to make the reunion next summer unless some unforseen thing comes up.

Thanks for all the work you and Sally do for the class of '63!!!

Nickels Linander, Mary

How fun to log into this website and see what is going on with everyone. I love it (except for the bad news at times). After high school, I went to the University of South Dakota majoring, at first, in pre-med but graduating with a degree in French after falling in love with French during my sophomore year at USD. What happened there, I wonder?! Very stupid move on my part.

I married a boy from USD, moved to Omaha, Las Vegas, then Hoven, South Dakota!! for ten years. Four children later, I moved bak to Pierre (1980) because of divorce. Two years later, I married Steve Schultz; we had one child. I lived in Pierre (divorced again)until 1995 when I moved to Sioux Falls and went back to college, following along with two of my daughters who were in attendance there. I re-enrolled at USD for graduate studies and, somehow, 140 semester hours later, I left without a PhD. Stupid move again. :-)

I have been living in Glendale, Arizona for five years. I work as a school psychologist in two elementary schools. Primarily, I test children for special education, giving IQ tests and other assessments. My mother moved with me to Arizona, but I lost her great company two years ago when she was almost 95 years old and still very witty and charming.

My children live all over except for one, who lives here in Glendale with her husband. She is a primary care doctor in an Acute Care setting. They have one daughter, who I babysit for often. I have two children in the armed forces: a daughter who joined the Navy two years ago and my oldest, a son, who is a Major in the Air Force. I have one daughter in Kansas City, who is a speech therapist. My youngest (and Steve's)is in her final year at LSU Law School (#1 in her class). I have 6 beautiful grandchildren.

I cannot wait to attend the class reunion this coming summer. I hope many of you all will be there. If you visit the Valley of the Sun, please contact me so we can get together.

O'Rielly, Robert Dean

Otto Tessier, Maxine

After graduation in 1963, I attended Sioux Falls College for one year.  In 1965, I began working for the State of South Dakota. I was able to retire in April, 2002, and I now work two days a week at the Hallmark Card and Candy store. That is a fun job.

A short summary of my life from 1969 to the present:

I lived in Puerto Rico for two years as my husband was in the Air Force.  From Puerto Rico, we moved to San Bernadino, CA.  I lived and worked there for thirteen years before returning to Pierre in 1983.  I thought Pierre would be a better place to raise my daughters Jennifer and Brenda.  I also have a lot of family members living in Pierre, so it was like coming back home.

I now enjoy quilting with friends one day a week and going for walks.  Pierre really is a wonderful place to live.

Palmer, Loren

Hi everyone - I'm very sorry to have missed the reunion last month, but the only excuse to miss the 50th will be The Big One.

I retired from teaching this year after 40 years, having started in Mobridge in 1967.  After four memorable years there, I attended Western Illinois University two years full-time as a Graduate Assistant, and spent the next four years teaching in a small community college in Illinois.  A retail music business opportunity reared its ugly head in 1977, which took me to the East Coast, where I operated the store in Newport, Rhode Island.  Two years later, I was offered a teaching position in the Newport Schools, and after fighting the  new- business- retail-battle that long, was glad to  be  back "home" teaching.  I was named District Teacher of The Year in 2006 - 2007, and was very gratified to be able to leave the profession on my terms on a high note (you should pardon the expression) after 30 years.

Newport is a resort community on the east coast, so if your travels ever get you this way, I hope you'll let me know.  I'll be your personal travel guide!  Give me a call or e-mail!

Parlet, Mary

A quick update: I retired in 2001 after 35 years with Honeywell. I moved/transferred from Minneapolis, Mn in 1992 to Rio Rancho, New Mexico with Honeywell. I dearly love being retired. This coming year, I will be able to join the baby boomers in collecting social security (can't wait!!).

I love golfing & do so every day that I want to! I also love gardening ( I have a large garden) & working in my yard. I also work every year at the New Mexico State Legislature as the Judiciary Committee Secretary. It is not exactly where you would think I would end up but it is fun & I have learned a whole new aspect to our society. It is like South Dakota's legislature - meets for 60 days one year & the next year is 30 days.

I have been on your website & really enjoy it. Will send another update after the first of the year as I am currently in Tucson, AZ spending the months of Nov & Dec with friends. Then I go back to NM (home) & work at the legislature in Jan/Feb & then usually go back to Tucson for Mar/Apr. Then I will include a photo.

Thanks again for such a great wed site & hope to see you all in June.

Hi to everyone!

We have 2 children Terecia and Brian. Teri has 3 girls and Brian has a son and daughter. Everyone lives in the Sioux Falls area so that is where we usually spend the majority of our summers.  We have been truly blessed.

We retired in September of 2001 and have had the privilege of traveling ever since. We travel in a 40 foot motorhome towing a Trailblazer so home is where we park it. We are so sorry we missed the last reunion in Phoenix; we were in southern Florida. We do plan on attending the one this summer. We plan on spending the upcoming winter in a suburb of Phoenix by the name of El Mirage.

Truly enjoy everyone’s messages and we’ll try to keep ours updated. Our e-mail is jjlwhitney@hotmail.com  and we love hearing from people. Our cell phone is 605.695.0887 - keep in touch.

Samco McKenna, Charlotte (Tinker)

How wonderful this website is! Hi! it's Tinker Samco (also Charlotte McKenna/Crawford and I am going to be there and am grateful if anyone remembers me...since no one was really sure where I graduated from.

I only went to school in Pierre through 9th grade...then to Philip through my Jr. year...then to Denver where I had a baby girl that I gave up for adoption. Then to Hollywood High School where I finished my senior year and actually walked on the stage of the Hollywood Bowl to receive my high school diploma. That's where I met husband Johnny Crawford.

NOW...Brenda is 45, Jamie is 36...I am (you know).63....and Ruth (my birth mother) is 82..WOW!

My mom Rachel was 93 when we lost her at Mary House two years ago..my brother Mason and I still are very close and I miss him so I am coming to Pierre to the reunion. I am grateful to be invited and I need to see my brother, Mason....and I  will be staying with him.

I have a grandchild from each daughter and Brenda lives in Texas.  I will be leaving Pierre to meet my kids, my boyfriend and Ruth, my biological mom in Texas the next day after the class reunion. We are all very close and have been together each year since 1979. We love each other very much. Enough for now.

Thanks for this opportunity to tell my story.  Love you guys.  I look forward to this very much!! charlottemckenna@charter.net  is my  email. I live in Burbank with 2 dogs and 2 cats and am in the senior care business in case you need to know anything about that...........haha

What a nice web page! It's fun to keep up with what classmates are up to.
I moved to Rapid City in 1973. Larry and I were married in 1993. He retired in 1998 and I retired from the bank in 2003 after 30 years. We have taken several trips from Alaska to Key West and Maine to Mexico - and places in between. We love to travel the back roads.

I have 7 grandchildren, ages 18 yrs to 7 months, scattered around the country, but only 2 in Rapid City. My many hobbies keep me busy throughout the year and we try to go fishing as often as we can. I know that I have missed the last 2 reunions, but I'm hoping to see everyone in 2008.
Thanks so much for all you do in keeping us in touch.

Fondly,
Janet Tobin Talley
